Hacienda La Minita has been selling single estate coffee since 1985. La Minita is located in the coffee producing zone in Costa Rica called “Los Santos” comprised of small villages and towns just outside of San Jose, situated between the Tarrazú River to the south and the Candelaria River to the north. The farm consists of 1,200 acres of land with 800 acres producing coffee and 400 acres reserved as protected forest. Milling operations were added in the early 2000s and further improved in 2014.
The farm employs a selective pruning system to ensure new growth, as well as maintaining a nursery that is used to plant younger trees to replace older ones. In a typical year, 150,000 trees are replaced with trees from the nursery.
Hacienda La Minita employs 80 full time employees including managers, farm workers, administration staff, drivers and maintenance personnel. In addition, approximately 150 contractor laborers and over 600 pickers are utilized during the harvest season.
Post harvest processing is completed at its coffee mill, Beneficio Rio Tarrazu, located adjacent to the farm across the Tarrazu River. It is arguably one of the more technologically advanced and ecologically sound coffee processing facilities in the world.
